Chancellor visits the DEB!

 
Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, visited the Department of the Built Environment on 20 November '09 to see the Creative Energy Homes project. The Chancellor was very impressed with the work of the Dept. and his visit was reported in national media such as the BBC. Mr Darling is the third Cabinet Minister visiting the Creative Energy Homes project.

Following Portugal, United Kingdom(Nottingham), China(Shandong, Chongqing), Italy(Vicenza), and Chile(Santiago) were the venues of the conference. In each conference, about 140 technical papers (on the average) were presented from more than 40 countries. The SET 2009 conference was held in Aachen, Germany and more than 350 delegates attended the event.  
 
SET 2010 Conference will be held in Shanghai, China on August 25th- 27th.
 

Objective

The continuing objective of this conference series is to promote research and applications of the sustainable energy technologies. The specific objective of SET2010 is to situate these technologies in the context of the environmental pressure developed by growing economies still lacking technologies that fit their economic and cultural needs.

The conference invites researchers, engineers, government officers and company delegates from the all fields to gather, present and share the results of their work in these areas and discuss future strategies for sustainability.

CALL FOR PAPERS 
Authors are kindly welcomed to submit an abstract in English before January 31, 2010 for the initial review. The accepted abstracts will be invited for oral or poster presentations on research, policy and practice regarding the conference topics. The submitted abstract should contain : 1) Title of the paper, 2) Authors’ names, full address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address of the author to whom subsequent correspondence should be directed, 3) Main body no more than 250 words, 4) Keywords no more than five in the order of importance. The abstract should clearly state the objectives, results, and conclusions to enable the scope and nature of the paper to be assessed. Final acceptance will be determined based on the review of the abstract and authors will be notified of acceptance by February 15, 2010. Full manuscripts are due by July 15, 2010.

 SET 2009-NEWS
 SET 2009 successfully took place this year in Aachen, Germany.
The SET organisers would like to thank all participants for their valuable contribution to SET 2009 and would like to encourage you to join SET in 2010 (www.set2010.org).  A special thanks also goes to our session Professor Ingo Romey (General Chair of SET 2009 ),  who worked with such professionalism and enthusiasm at this event. 
During SET2009, new business opportunities, face to face match-making sessions with international companies, joint ventures, collaboration on research and development projects and  innovation also took place.

WSSET Awards of Excellence - SET 2010 
 
The World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET) is a non-profit organisation run by volunteers including academics, students and private individuals. WSSET has played an important role in promoting sustainable energy and developing partnerships between academics and industry worldwide. The Society carries out a range of activities including conferences/seminars, match-making events for industry, publishing newsletters/journals, public engagement events, assisting new businesses, encouraging collaboration between industry and universities and assisting groups such as the HOPE Group for Africa to address issues relating to developing countries. The WSSET Awards are presented in the Categories, MSc students, PhD students and Post-doctoral Research Fellows/Research Associates for outstanding projects in sustainable technology. Awards are presented at the Sustainable Energy Technologies (SET) conferences.
WSSET invites applicants to apply for the following awards:
 
Professor Marmont MSc Energy Award is presented to the best MSc student project in sustainable energy technology.
 
WSSET PhD Energy Research Award is presented to the best PhD student in recognition of outstanding research project in sustainable energy technology.
 
WSSET Research Fellowship Energy Award is presented to the best R&D project carried out by Research Associates/Post-doctoral Research Fellows in recognition of outstanding work in sustainable energy technology.

Please send the following documents along with the completed application form:

a) A short summary of the project (should not exceed 150 words) and two high quality digital images. This material will be used for theWSSET website.

b) A description of your project (3 pages max.) including the project background, objectives, innovative aspects, environmental compatibility, experimental results and benefits.

c) Additional supporting documents (if available) including publications, photographs, DVDs and brochures.

By participating in theWSSET Awards you agree to accept publication of your project. Submitted projects are also documented in the WSSET website/database.
